Hello there, Dear Reader! How are you this beautiful game day? Ready to knock the wind out of some spoiled children’s lungs? (Re: Stanford vs. U$C, AKA the University of Spoiled Children.) Make sure to tune into the game if you can’t make it. It’s gonna be a good one, I can feel it.
Before my Trojan brother, Gus, and I head out to the tailgate this afternoon, I want to share a quick update with my new ~dorm room transformation~… I’m pretty proud.
Every dorm room is slightly different, even within a single school. Mine came with a bedframe, a mattress, a short dresser (pictured), an armoire (with some shelves, a bar for hanging clothes, and two drawers), a desk with side drawers, and built-in shelves.
Furniture-wise, I added two extra dressers, a side table for a little coffee corner, a floor lamp, a small couch, and a shoe rack. I highly recommend curtains as a very easy decorative addition that will instantly make your room feel warm and homey. Ambient lighting is also key, so lots of lamps is a smart move imo.
Big barren walls can be particularly intimidating when decorating a new room. In past years, I’ve covered entire walls in a collage of posters/signs. But this year, I took a different approach…
By breaking up the wall into several sections– a full-length mirror, a cork board collage, and Christmas lights– that entire side of the room got much more dynamic and seemed to gain multiple new dimensions. (Lol what am I talking about.)
I spent a lot of time rearranging the furniture in the room to try to eliminate as much awkward floor space as possible. Ultimately, my efforts failed. HOWEVER, I was able to take advantage of the awkward space at the foot of my bed by transforming it into…
… a coffee corner! Shouts out to my single-serving coffee maker, my abundance of mugs, and the birchwood side table that someone left near the donation bin outside Suites for making it so easy 🙂 The final touches to the room were the American flag, world map, and long scroll that Allan got me from China.
Here’s the decoration video!
Much love and GO STANFORD,
