Hello and happy Sunday! Today marks the halfway point of Tree Week on The Farm, the two-week period (yeah idk) in which a handful of fearless contenders perform stunts ranging from the gross to the hilarious to prove they deserve to be the next Stanford Tree.

The tree is the unofficial mascot of Stanford University. Our official mascot is cardinal (THE COLOR NOT THE BIRD, OKAY) — but recognizing full well that a color is an even sh*ttier mascot than a plant… well… let’s just go with “Fear The Tree.”

This is Fagel. He’s in the band.

The winner of tree week has the honor of hand-crafting their own tree costume, which they jump around frantically in for the next academic year at football games, basketball games, school events, and the like. The unabridged silliness of the tree, as well as the one, the only LSJUMB, capture one of the things I love so much about this school– nobody takes themselves too seriously.

This year, my friend Josh Fagel is in the running for Stanford Tree. (If you purchased a CiC calendar, you’ll recognize him as the May guy yacking on the table next to Party Michelle.) Together, we made a little video showcasing two of his stunts– one in which he waxed his legs, chest, happy trail, and nipples, and another small prank where we walked around Main Quad as he shouted DJ Khaled quotes at tourists.

Enjoy!
