I’d never cried openly in an airport before yesterday.

Just a couple hours before I found myself quietly shedding tears in Terminal 9 of the San Jose International Airport, I had finally bid the long-awaited and long-dreaded farewell to my first year at Stanford University.

Parting ways with The Farm for the summer– and my freshman dorm, for life– was the hardest goodbye I’ve ever had to say. Now, as I sit here at the kitchen table of my home in Barrington, Illinois, I’m struggling to come up with words that could possibly capture all that the past year– or even the past quarter– has meant to me.

And so I am reminded: Written word isn’t the best medium to tell certain stories.

As the final addition to my freshman quarterly video series, please enjoy the short film:

My Freshman Spring Quarter at Stanford

If you missed them, click HERE for my fall quarter video and HERE for my winter quarter video! (NOTICE: Though several minutes longer, I think this spring video has been my best recap video so far 🙂 I hope you do, too!)

If the 8 minute-long film is too long for your attention span, just make sure you at least catch Conner at 7:02 slippin hard.

At the end of the dreadfully long process of transporting my crying butt from campus to Barrington, I was quickly reminded that I have a wonderful home to come back to. I was greeted by a wall of “Welcome Back” signs and a tray of warm chocolate chip oatmeal cookies that Michaela had baked from scratch, just for me.

Goodbyes suck.

And while I feel incredibly blessed to now have what I consider to be two homes and two families, I also fear that because of this, I may never feel whole.

This summer will be a long one, Dear Reader. I know it will be one big countdown til move in day– 96 days!– and so I am asking you to bear with me. I am opening up to you now, DR. These next few months will be a big emotional struggle for me. Stanford became my home, and I have never felt so incredibly homesick.

So here’s to the hopes that somebody reading this right now knows what I’m going through. Thank you all so much for reading– I love you so much.
